Fr. Spitzer has had a long-standing interest in ethical leadership. In addition to starting and directing the Institute of Professional Ethics in Seattle and the Institute on Character Development at Seattle University, he held the Frank Shrontz Endowed Chair of Professional Ethics at Seattle University and the John Aram Chair of Business Ethics at Gonzaga University.

He has published several articles in the area of organizational ethics, and has devoted a considerable part of his new book, Spirit of Leadership, to this subject. He has recently completed a video series entitled, Ethical Leadership at the Competitive Edge. (Click on the Books & Media link for information.)

Since 1990, he has been involved in ethics education and consulting at many profit, nonprofit, and governmental organizations. In 2000, he co-founded the Gonzaga Institute of Ethics, and while president at Gonzaga University has delivered approximately thirty presentations per year to organizations and professional groups on various special topics in organizational ethics.
